If to trust data of official statistics, Ukraine, uveliyochivshy in 2006 production of water-melons more than twice, smogla to leave on the third place in Europe on production of this culture. Production of water-melons in Ukraine in 2006, according to data of ofiyotsialny statistics, made 687 thousand t.
More water-melons grow up only in Russia (about 1 million tons) and in Spain (about 700 thousand t). However, according to experts of an ezhenedelyyonik Agrooglyad: vegetables and fruit, official data on a water-melon proizyovodstvo in Ukraine are underestimated at least by 15-20 %. On obemam export Ukraine, according to preliminary estimates, in the past godu was on the first place in Europe.
Despite surplus of a water-melon in the market of Ukraine in 2006, many professional producers in 2007 expanded the areas under this culture, because of low costs involving them of cultivation, unpretentiousness and low prime cost. And in the presence of channels for export of production to EU countries cultivation of a water-melon can be very profitable business.
