As it is surprising, but one of the most known herbs – a St. John’s Wort use also in cookery. From it prepare seasonings for fish dishes and drinks, and in the alcoholic beverage industry – bitter tinctures. In traditional medicine a St. John’s Wort call medicine for 99 diseases and use in the form of broths, tinctures, pressures for external and internal application. Besides it still call ivanyuk, a devyatilistnik, a zhuravets, a hare tree, Ivan potion, etc. From 14 types of a St. John’s Wort growing in Ukraine, two more often meet – a St. John’s Wort ordinary and a St. John’s Wort tetrahedral or spotty. They grow everywhere – in the woods, on meadows, in gardens, along roads. Their greens are poisonous for animals, from here, as a matter of fact, and there is a name a St. John’s Wort. It blossoms throughout all summer, an excellent melliferous herb.
From it produce drinks. The recipe is extremely simple: 100 g of a dried grass of a St. John’s Wort boil in two liters of water, filter, add there 100 g of sugar, boil, then cool. Instead of sugar it is possible to add honey, and for a podkisleniye – juice of sour berries.
It is possible to prepare tea from dried greens in a mix with other herbs:1 glass of a dry grass of a St. John’s Wort, 2,5 glasses of a dushitsa, 0,5 glasses of a dogrose make as tea or take a dried St. John’s Wort and the currant leaves in equal quantities, previously crushed and make.
Collecting a grass of a St. John’s Wort it is necessary to cut off carefully the top part without uprooting a plant. It is necessary to make thrifty use of its stocks also.
