From experience of the practician

About a gooseberry write much, eulogize its taste and advantage. Without it, probably, it is impossible to manage. It is unique berry from Canada where it grows in a wild look almost to the Polar circle. Extremely big variety of berries on color – green, yellow, pink, red and black, and also in a form and the size.

In years with a large amount of a precipitation a gooseberry struck sferoteka (the American mealy dew). It sharply reduced plantings of the European grades. Began to grow up American, but berry at them very small.

Recently selectors deduced krupnoplodny sferotekoustoychivy grades. I will stop on their characteristics.

The high castle – differs stable productivity, a krupnoplodnost, stability to the American mealy dew. Bush slaborosly, slaboraskidisty, escapes of average thickness, straight lines. Thorns single and double, are placed perpendicularly to escape. Berries rounded oval, dark red, average mass of 4,1 g, large – 6,4 g. A thin skin of average thickness, without omission. Pulp of mature fruits olive-brown, pleasant, sweet-sour taste (4,25 points). Since 1995 the grade is brought in the Register of grades of plants of Ukraine.

Kamenyar – fruitful, krupnoplodny, is steady against the American mealy dew and septoriozu. A bush silnorosly and slaboraskidisty with straight lines, average thickness escapes. Thorns single and direct, are placed on all length of escape perpendicularly. Berries rounded oval, dark red, average mass of 3,5 g, large – 6,3 g. A thin skin of average thickness, without omission. Pulp olive-brown, pleasant sweet-sour taste (4,25 points). Since 1994 the grade is brought in the Register of grades of plants of Ukraine.

The Carpathians – an early ripening and high-yielding variety, with complex stability to the American mealy dew and septoriozu. Bush srednerosly, sredneraskidisty. Escape of average thickness. Thorns single and double, are placed slantwise down. Berries large, ovate-roundish, average mass of 3,5 g, large – 6,6 g, dark red, without omission. Thin skin of average thickness, strong, elastic. Pulp olive-brown, pure, pleasant dessert, sweet-sour taste (4,5 points). Since 1995 the grade is entered into the Register of grades of plants of Ukraine.

The cue - has the high stable productivity, the increased drought resistance and winter hardiness, is steady against mealy dew, so-so is surprised antraknozy, with the general good viability. The bush of average force of growth, is formed of moderate quantity upright, enough thick, sredneshipovaty escapes.

Berries large, average mass of 4,2-4,5 g ovate-roundish, yellow with boldly outstanding streaks, not trimmed. Thin skin of average thickness, strong elastic, pulp chartreuse, pleasant sweet-sour taste (4,25-4,5 points). It is grown up since 1992.

Likhtaryk – differs high stable productivity, high drought resistance and winter hardiness. It is steady against the American mealy dew and antraknozu. A bush of average force of growth, with direct, rather thick, slabozhilovaty escapes. Berries large, average mass of 5,3-5,9 g, roundish, dark red, without omission. Thin skin thin, strong, elastic. Pulp greenish, pleasant sweet-sour (4,25-4,5 points of taste). It is grown up since 1992.

The Neslukhovsky – is characterized by a krupnoplodnost, high productivity, excellent dessert taste of berries, stability to septeriozu, good general viability, poorly is surprised mealy dew. A bush silnorosly, slaboraskidisty, with straight lines of average thickness escapes. Annual escapes bugrovaty, not trimmed. Thorns strong, are placed on 1-2 perpendicularly to escape, sometimes slantwise down the phaeochrous.

Berries large, rounded oval, dark red color. Average mass of berries of 3,7 g, larger – 6,3 g. A thin skin of average thickness, strong, with weak omission. Pulp of very pleasant dessert taste (4,5-5,0 points). Since 1990 the grade is cultivated in all regions of Ukraine.

All these grades, are undoubtedly good, but have common fault – a shipovatost. And me interests only the besshipny. And at me grow and two such wonderful grades fructify, – others I do not want.

Kolobok – a grade of average term of maturing, sredneraskidisty, zagushhayushhijsya, slaboshipovaty, has a good ukorenyaemost of escapes at all ways of vegetative reproduction. Berries large, red, with a wax raid, salad appointment, mass of 4-5 g. Grade of srednezimostoykiya. With success it is grown up in all regions of Ukraine.

Ottawa – this grade to me sent from the Kaliningrad region Russia. It is deduced in Germany and there it is widespread. A bush silnorosly, slaboraskidisty, at young age more sprawling, later – upright. Escapes average quantity, they average thickness which are dugovato-hanging down, besshipny with the pinkish, painted tops. Leaves with average cut, stupid, short. Berries large, average mass of 4,5 g, roundish, red color. Veins slaborazvetvlenny, light pink color, well appreciable. Pulp juicy, gentle with a small amount of seeds. Taste of berries good, sweet-sour, pleasant. Advantages: high stability to the American mealy dew, lack of thorns, high productivity, krupnoplodnost, good taste of berries, universal direction of use. Shortcomings: a raskidistost of bushes at young age.
