Than transgene products are dangerous

In article it is noted that on the basis of the Law of Ukraine About protection of the rights of the consumer from 12.05.91g., the producer should provide information to the buyer concerning GMI existence as a part of the goods. It is not known, how hypermarkets – technologies will affect immune, hormonal systems of people of the following generations.

GM-products – progress weeds

Disputes on that, are harmful or useful gene-modified products (GMP), are conducted any more the first year and day by day all become hotter. Ecologists participate in them, show business stars, church hierarches. Europeans carefully check marking of labels not only on products, but even on bedding and clothes, and the governments of EU countries pay to farmers of the grant for cultivation of non-polluting products. Russia takes a special position in this question.

The most important problem of the consumer consists in lack of possibility and an option of that production which he prefers. As marking "contains GMI" on the goods practically isn’t put, at present to avoid GMI use in food it is almost impossible. The inscription "doesn’t contain genetically modified sources" too not always represents the facts.

The falsification facts are quite often elicited: on the foodstuff containing hypermarket components, documents in which their absence is declared are represented. So, recently "black lists" of Federal service on supervision in the sphere of protection of the rights of the consumer and wellbeing of the person filled up: Primeprotein S soy protein concentrate (producer "Nutrac B.V.", Netherlands); ProTecCOn G soy protein concentrate ("SoyProTec LTD.P.O.136", Israel); APKON SJ soy protein concentrate ("ADM", Netherlands).

In these conditions the public environmental and consumer organizations should raise the question even more sharply about marking of the food containing GMO.

According to office "Greenpeace", 80 % of fellow citizens don’t want to use gene-modified production in food, but to them it often simply impose. Despite the law defining rules of its marking, serious control of producers in this sphere still isn’t present. At those who realizes such products, the interest. Meanwhile the volume of the world market of GM-production by 2006 made, by expert estimates, about 3,8 billion dollars.

For the first time the world learned about GMI application for cultivation of vegetables in the late eighties the last century. Then the large American corporation – the producer of chemicals – Monsanto created the first modified tomato. Genetic engineering allowed to accelerate process of selection of crops and thus to grow up attractive vegetables on appearance which besides were impregnable for gluttonous insects. To the middle the 90th production of GMP was put on a stream, and transgene by potatoes, tomatoes, a soya, corn, tobacco started to be exported from America to Europe. Some years consumers were happy, seeing on counters of shops large beautiful vegetables, – according to the international bulletin World Crop Protection, in 1995 of transgene products was sold on 75 million dollars. However soon Europe sounded the alarm.

But already in the mid-nineties there are first messages on possible side effects at the use of GM-products in pure form or as additives. In 1999 seven European Union countries imposed a ban on use and sale of transgene production. Then the USA, the main supplier of GM-technologies, threatened Europe with trading sanctions, and in 2003 the European Parliament lifted a ban, however obliged to mark the goods as a part of which there are at least 0,9 % of GMI. Thus each EU country has a right to impose a ban on this or that type of a transgene.

Still, while are proved by nobody neither danger, nor safety of their use to the person. Meanwhile in Russia and in England researches on this subject were carried out. Experiences on rats showed that the use of GM-containing production leads to blood count change, falling of number of leukocytes, growth of segments of a liver, change of a vystilka of a thick gut. Growth of experimental animals was slowed down, the size of a brain decreased. Reports on results of these experiences are at Institute of a food of Russia, in Ministry of Health, in the British medical academy. The last researches also showed that at the use of GM-production the probability of a disease a cancer increases.

But, to judge, whether transgenes are dangerous to the person, should pass time. Therefore a number of scientists considers that while malignancy of GMI isn’t proved, early to outlaw gene-modified products. Nevertheless the main fears of scientists are connected with the so-called postponed result which will be shown in some decades. It is not known, how GM-technologies will affect immune, hormonal systems of people of the following generations, – ecologists of the Russian regional ecological center consider.

Article 15 of item 5 of the Law of Ukraine About protection of the rights of consumers from 12.05.91 obliges producers to provide to buyers information concerning existence as a part of the goods genetic the modified oborudovaniye. In 2006 new edition of the law About protection of the rights of consumers which obliges producers GMI-soderzhashchey to place production information on it on labels of the goods but that the law was observed came into force the corresponding technical base is necessary for checks of products on the maintenance of GMI. Now there is only one laboratory with the state accreditation where define existence of transgenes in products, but it is not enough of it. Therefore on counters it is almost impossible to find production on which label existence in its structure of GMI would be specified that yet doesn’t speak about its absence.

The penalty is raised from the broken rule of marking (scanty) while in Europe for non-compliance with the law can simply burn all crop.

The West meanwhile refuses not only transgenes, but also from traditionally grown up vegetables if the producer applied chemical fertilizers more and more. In Europe, the USA, Japan the fashion on a non-polluting food grows every year. According to CVS Consulting agency, annual growth rates of the market of organic food in developed countries exceed 20 %. The main consumers of healthy food – Germany, Italy, France and Great Britain. In all these countries pure products extend not so much through specialized shops, how many through usual supermarkets.

In Russia the organic products market arises. Some companies which are engaged in cultivation of vegetables, already by many criteria come nearer to the European standard. The main problem which producers of bioproducts – demand for these goods face. Therefore soon the most part of the non-polluting goods will leave for export, and the rest will be delivered adresno - in expensive shops and restaurants.
