Frenchmen watch vineyards from the satellite

Information concerns supervision by Frenchmen over a condition of the vineyards by means of satellites. The photos received from an orbit allow to watch quality of grown-up grapes.

To keep the place of the leader in the wine market, France started to watch a condition of vineyards by means of satellites. The photos received from an orbit will allow to watch quality of grown-up grapes.

The project of supervision over vineyards from space was created by the Infoterra company providing a wide range of geographical data, and Agricultural institute of wine (ICV). The technology which has received the name Oenoview, allows to receive pictures which contain information received at aerial photograph and at shooting from the satellite in driving red beam.

Producers can receive information on the content of water in vineyards and some characteristics of berries in six months prior to the beginning of harvesting. In case of detection of a lack of water or any mineral substances farmers can add them in time. Besides, producers can divide berries on quality. Satellite data also will help to estimate volume of future crop.
